Match Report
Bute FC 3 - 2 Atholl

Playing against 9 men in the first half, we had the majority of the possession, tons of space on the ball, broke up their passing in the middle, and made them rely on counter attacks through their 2 quick/skillful strikers.Mark started us off with a sweetly struck left footer from 30 yards out into the top right corner - the keeper had no chance. The goal got us into a groove, we started putting balls into the box, but still couldn't capitalize on chances. Eventually, Julian had had enough, and took matters into his own hands. He powered down the right wing, crossed the ball and placed it perfectly onto Miles' foot for him to calmly flick it over the keeper into the back of the net. We continued to create chances after that, but saw the half off at 2-0. It could've easily been 6-0.

They started gaining momentum in the 2nd half, and got an extra player on the pitch. We held our own for the first 15 minutes or so, then decided to experiment with our formation & went with 3 at the back. It didn't work too well, since we started to get sloppy and couldn't find our shape. Their 2 strikers took advantage and got a scrappy goal in, before one of their midfielders hit a screamer into the top right corner.

We changed back to a 4-3-3, and kept fighting. We started to move the ball nicely again, made runs, made a couple plays through the wings, but still couldn't get enough decent shots on net. That is until Miles, with 8 minutes left on the clock, intercepted a poor clearance outside the penalty box, and hit the ball on the volley into the bottom right corner. Fuck yes.

Taking nothing away from Miles' heroics, we got lucky today. We should've finished the game off in the first half, but we made things hard for ourselves when they didn't need to be. That being said, these types of games are the ones that win championships. On to the next one.
